Since 1998, the Coquitlam School Board has supported the COAST program by providing funds for two teachers and instructional facilities. To cover field trip expenses, the COAST Program generates funds through a $1150 tuition, fundraising initiatives, generous donations, and grants. Additional support is provided by many volunteers, from alumni to experts in their field of knowledge.

COAST Equipment provided for student use
Canoes - paddles, bailers, throw bags
Kayaks - paddles, pumps, paddle floats, throw bags
Mountain Bikes - repair kits
Camping gear - tents, sleeping pads, stoves, fuel, pots, tarps, ropes, water filters, water bags
Backpacks, dry bags
Paddling clothing - wet suits, paddle jackets, personal flotation device (PFD's)
Winter gear - cross country skiis, poles, shoes, snowshoes
Navigation gear - compass and whistle
Additional Expenses
In addition to the $1150 COAST Tuition the following expenses should be expected (Please see Gear Guide for more specific information):
Clothing and equipment as outlined below (some of this outdoor clothing and equipment is available for loan, free of charge)
• Personal gear as outlined on Gear Guide page (some items may be found in the Coast donation bin)
• Food for overnight trips (approx. $10/day)
• Bike Helmet– required (Certification: Ensure it has a certification from the CSA, EN, ASTM, CPSC or Snell B90/B95.)
• COAST Hoodie – optional (approx. $45)
• COAST final BBQ food item– optional (approx. $10)
