COAST 10 Procedures and Timeline

SUMMARY IMPORTANT DATES FOR COAST 2018

November 15 - 18th, 2016 - Past COAST students visit Grade 9 Classrooms
November 18, 2016 - Pizza Lunch for grade 9s and Q&A with past COAST students in room 104 (The Coast Room)
November 23rd, 2016 - Coast Parent/Student Information Night at 7:00pm-8:00pm in the Gleneagle Library
Friday December 16, 2016 - Applications are due in Room 104 by 3:00pm
Week of January 23, 2017 - Interviews (please see #3 below for details)
Friday February 3, 2017 - Notifications mailed out (please see #5 below for details)
Friday February 17, 2017 - Confirmation of Acceptance Due (please see #6 below for details)

1. INFORMATION MEETING

     Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
     Gleneagle Secondary School, in the Library
     Parents of grade 9 students are invited to the COAST Information Night. Students are welcome to attend with their parents.

 

2. APPLICATION DUE DATE

Completed Application Forms with attached paragraph are due to room 104 by Friday December 16th, 2016 at 3:00pm

3. INTERVIEWS

The interview process with involve two parts: the group hike, and the individual interviews. The Group Hike for all applicants will be the week of January 23rd, 2017 in room 104 (more details will be available soon). The hike will last approximately 1 hour. Students are required to wear clothing suitable to the weather on the day of the hike. We will be hiking the Coquitlam Crunch, near Scott Creek Middle School. After the group hike, students are required to schedule an individual interview for the afternoon on the same day. All applicants will receive an interview.

4. INDIVIDUAL STUDENT INTERVIEWS (10 MIN IN DURATION)

What happens during the student interview?
Students will meet in the office of room 104 with Ms. Bogen and Ms. Smith. Students will be asked a series of questions relating to their life experiences and attitude around outdoor education philosophy.

5. NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE

Letters are mailed out (via Canada Post) on Friday, February 5th, 2016.
All applicants (both successful and unsuccessful) will be notified. No phone calls or e-mails please.

6. CONFIRMATION OF ACCEPTANCE

Successful applicants must submit the following by Friday, February 17th, 2017:
1. Parent Confirmation Form (sent with acceptance package)
2. $250.00 deposit
